Home-  We are  a  team from the Medical university of Sofia Bulgaria which is composed of jurists, experts  in medical ethics  and doctors.  OUR GOAL IS AN INVESTIGATION ABOUT THE PUBLIC OPINIONS IN EUROPE CONCERNING SOME ETHICAL AND LEGAL PROBLEMS IN THE BIOMEDICAL PRACTICE.

The progress in  biological sciences opens new possibilities for the medicine but simultaneously distract the traditional views about the human body,  the reproduction and the human embryo. A lot of ethical and legal problems appear. They are part of bioethics and are subject of incessant discussions in the contemporary societies.

On the international and the European levels it is difficult to find laws which oblige the different countries to apply common rules in the field of assisted reproduction and bioethics. The national laws are usually based on the local culture and the public opinion. On the international level there are some declarations which are of desirable character. The only obligatory document in the field of bioethics is  the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Dignity of the Human Being with regard to the Application of Biology and Medecine /1997/  known also as the Convention from Oviedo. In order to become valid in a country the convention must be ratified by the national parliament. Until now the Convention from Oviedo has been ratified only by 13 countries members of the European Union. The lack  of common European legislation concerning these issues  creates conditions of development of medical tourism which sometimes may have unfavorable results. This situation must be changed by the challenging of public interest in regard to these problems. This is one of the aims of the present study.
